Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Pseudocrenilabrinae
Max. size:  15.2 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: Lake Malawi (Ref. 4991).
Diagnosis:  Description: median pharyngeal teeth somewhat enlarged (Ref. 55954). Coloration: red blotch on the flanks; dorsal fin lappets red (Ref. 55954).
Biology:  Lives over sand in shallow as well as in deeper regions. Feeds on small invertebrates and plankton taken from the sand or from the water (Ref. 5595).

Threat to humans:  harmless
