Has a well-defined black stripe along the sides from the gill opening to the end of the median caudal rays; 12-13 branched dorsal fin rays; a bright orange or red caudal, dorsal, anal and pelvic fins. |
Usually associated with clear, relatively fast flowing waters, with gravel to stony bottom (Ref. 27732). Juveniles all found in the overhanging bank vegetation and near the soft substrate banks (Ref. 34011). Moves into flooded forests adjacent to upland streams during periods of elevated water levels (Ref. 12693). |
