Family:  Oplegnathidae (Knifejaws)
Max. size:  75 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 20 - 130 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Delagoa Bay in Mozambique northwards (Ref. 4387), but the northern limit of its range in not known (Ref. 9660).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 20-21; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 16-16. Adults dark bronzy brown in color.
Biology:  Inhabits reef areas and feeds on benthic invertebrates.

Threat to humans:  harmless
