Family:  Opistognathidae (Jawfishes)
Max. size:  4.8 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 0 - 35 m
Distribution:  Western Pacific: South China Sea.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-15; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 14-14. Description: Characterized by complex pattern of brown stripes and bars and white blotches; brown and white spots on dorsal fin, pale-edged blackish spot anteriorly; occasionally golden brown with faint hint of bars, stripes and blotches; oblique scale rows usually 58-69; length of upper jaw 64-87.8 % of head length, extending about 1.1-2.4 eye diameter behind rear margin of orbit; depth of body 3.0-6.2 in SL (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Found in sand near reefs in 0-35 m (Ref 90102).
