Family:  Ophidiidae (Cusk-eels), subfamily: Ophidiinae
Max. size:  25 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 1 - 55 m
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: Georgia to northeastern Florida and the entire northern Gulf of Mexico.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Common species found in shallow coastal waters (Ref. 34024). Found from shore to 55 m depth (ref. 7251). Oviparous, with oval pelagic eggs floating in a gelatinous mass (Ref. 205).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 29 January 2013 Ref. (130435)
