Environment:  demersal; brackish; marine; depth range - 50 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: Colombia (Ref. 5217) to southeast Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 8-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 29-32; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 9-10
Biology:  Inhabits sandy muddy bottoms in coastal waters and in estuaries. Juveniles restricted to brackish waters (Ref. 9626). Feeds mainly on shrimps. Marketed mostly fresh and salted, an important foodfish. One of the most highly priced species in Trinidad.
