Family:  Myxinidae (Hagfishes), subfamily: Myxininae
Max. size:  57 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 614 - 1625 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: southwest off Ireland and Iceland, off Western Sahara.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Scavengers which are found on muddy bottoms; feed largely on dead or disabled fish by boring into its skin. Eggs are few and large (20-30 mm).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 12 November 2009 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
