Family:  Muraenidae (Moray eels), subfamily: Muraeninae
Max. size:  90 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 169.8 g
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 0 - 250 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Eastern Central Atlantic: restricted to the Macaronesian archipelagos.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  A nocturnal territorial species found inhabiting rocky and stony bottoms, sometimes hiding under large rocks in tidal pools, from shore to a depth of 250 m, but mainly in shallower depths than 50 m (Ref. 58348).
