This species is distinguished by the following characters: body robust and with fleshy papillae on the head and sensory pits on the ventral surface of head and body; with conspicuous patch of melanophores around the anus; preanal length 24.4-28.0 %TL; pre-anal lateral-line pores 19-24, 2 mandibular pores; vertebrae 125-135; posterior dorsal-fin origin over tip of pectoral fin (Ref. 129313). |
Four adult females of the 28 specimens taken from northeastern and southwestern Taiwan were with mature ovary and eggs at small body size (180–221 mm) (Ref. 129313). |
