Family:  Leuciscidae (Minnows), subfamily: Pogonichthyinae
Max. size:  7.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  North America: Tennessee and Alabama River drainages in Virginia, Tennessee, northwestern Georgia and Alabama, USA. Nearly restricted to Coosa River system above Fall Line in Alabama River drainage.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits sandy and rocky pools and runs of clear creeks and small rivers (Ref. 86798). Oviparous (Ref. 205).

Threat to humans:  harmless
