Lissocampus bannwarthi (Duncker, 1915)

Family:  Syngnathidae (Pipefishes and seahorses), subfamily: Syngnathinae
Max. size:  13.2 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 0 - 2 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Egypt, Gulf of Suez and the Gulf of Aqaba.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in shallow water. Found among small rocks on sand bottoms. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205). Males may be brooding at 10.9 cm SL.
