Environment:  demersal; freshwater; depth range 50 - 70 m
Distribution:  Africa: Endemic to Lake Malawi. Widespread in the southern part; northern limit unknown, but recorded from Bandawe and Nkhota Kota.
Diagnosis:  Diagnosis: pharyngeal bone normal (Ref. 54524). Pharyngeal teeth enlarged or molariform (Ref. 54524, 55954). Anal fin base 20.4 (19.0-21.3)% SL (Ref. 54524). Description: short snout; terminal mouth set low on profile (Ref. 54524, 55954).
Biology:  Deep-water species (Ref. 55954). Inhabits sandy areas at depths. Feeds on insect larvae (Ref. 5595).
