Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Lampanyctinae
Max. size:  8.5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 40 - 1100 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Atlantic Ocean: 55°N-30°S but absent in the Benguela Upwelling Region (Ref. 4066). Western Pacific.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-15; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 16-18
Biology:  High-oceanic and mesopelagic species (Ref. 4066), found between 550-1,000 m during the day and at 40-250 m by night (maximum abundance in equatorial waters at 50-100 m) (Ref. 4479). Small juveniles non-migratory (Ref. 4479).
