Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Lampanyctinae
Max. size:  8 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 40 - 800 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Atlantic Ocean: about 41°N to about north of 26°N, and between 26°S and 30°S in western sector and to 33°S in eastern sector. Indian Ocean: between 25°S and 40°S. Pacific Ocean: 30°S to 40°S.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-15; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 12-14
Biology:  Oceanic and mesopelagic, found at 600-800 m during the day, mainly at 40-175 m during the night, but locally nyctoepipelagic at the surface (Ref. 4479).
