Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Torinae
Max. size:  42.5 cm FL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: endemic to Lake Tana, Ethiopia (Ref. 35835, 96382, 128753).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-13; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Eye diameter less than 1.5 times in snout length, less than 1.1 times in interorbital width, and less than 5 times in head length; head length the same as body depth; lower and upper jaw close equally or lower jaw extends anteriorly from upper jaw; usually a well developed nuchal hump.
Biology:  Occurs over muddy, sandy and rocky substrates (with slight preference for rocks), usually in water deeper than 3 m. Feeds on insects (both larvae and adults); small specimens also eat zooplankton, while large ones sometimes exclusively feed on fish (Ref. 35835).
