Max. size:  200 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 200 - 998 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: Morocco to South Africa.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-10; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 78-85. Dark brown to black in color, lighter below; pelvic ray and fold of skin at angle of mouth pale (Ref. 5528).
Biology:  Inhabits upper slopes (Ref. 27121). Feeds on ophiuroids and fishes (Ref. 6717).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 14 May 2013 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
