Environment:  pelagic-neritic; marine; depth range - 0 m
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: known only from Okinawa and the adjacent island of Ie. Reported from Taiwan (Ref. 5193).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 15-18; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 17-19; Vertebrae: 59-61. Upper jaw longer than in Hyporhamphus balinensis and Hyporhamphus affinis, its length almost equal to its width; vertebrae 58 or more; preorbital bone 1.1-1.6 times in diameter of orbit.
