Family:  Serranidae (Sea basses: groupers and fairy basslets)
Max. size:  13.2 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 1 - 45 m
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: Mosquito Bank (off Nicaragua), Bahamas, Grand Cayman (Cayman Islands), Jamaica, Dominican Republic, and Tobago. Absent from the rest of the Caribbean.
Diagnosis:  Body rich orangish-yellow in color. Snout with dark spots which may be large and bordered by iridescent blue. Pectoral fins pigmented.
Biology:  Previously known from deep reefs but has since been found in shallow water (1-8 m). Territorial on reef tops (Ref. 9710).

Threat to humans:  harmless
