Dorsal spines (total): 6-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-9; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 9-10. A few minute teeth present on vomer, mesopterygoid but none on palatines. Ascending dorsal process of premaxilla short, broad and not entering interorbital space. Body scales with very crenulated posterior edge. Midlateral scale count 33 to 35. Origin of first dorsal from 0.5 to 3 scales in front of vertical through tips of ventrals. Pectoral fin 3.4-3.9 in SL.
Description: Characterized by very large eye, 2.3-2.4 in head length; pectoral fins longer than other Hypoatherina, 3.4-3.9 in SL; ramus of dentary highly elevated posteriorly (Ref. 90102). |
Occurs in inshore waters around islands. Biology unknown. May be foraged by larger commercial species. Dried for pet food. |
