Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-12; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 11-11. This species is distinguished by the following characters: D VI + I,12; A I,11; pectoral-fin rays 14, branched rays; pelvic-fin rays I,5, with the fin separated and no fraenum, the 5th ray unbranched; no scales on body; no head canals; the suborbital rows of papillae with 4 transversal rows; absence of tentacle above eye; anterior nostril is a long tube without flap at its tip, while posterior nostril has a short tube, no more than ½ length of anterior nostril; body and head with irregular mottling above midlateral, both dorsal fins with black submarginal bands (Ref. 116594). |
A single specimen was collected in the large inner lagoon of main island (Farasan Archipelago), at the base of an isolated small coral patch, at 1m depth (Ref. 116594).. |
