Deep-bodied, with blunt head and compressed body; longitudinal scales 27-32; predorsal scales large, 8-10, edges often scalloped, extending close up behind eyes; body scales ctenoid; side of lower jaw strongly curved upward, forming ridge at symphysis; first dorsal fin low, rounded, with no filamentous spines; body greyish to brownish, scales often with blackish centers and 5-6 white diagonal bars, marbled or somewhat ocellate blackish spot on caudal base, eyes blue when live (Ref. 44011). Caudal fin rounded (Ref. 44011). |
Restricted to mangrove habitats (Ref. 44011). Hovers practically vertically, in small groups (Ref. 44011). |
