Lives in a variety of conditions ranging from clear, fast-flowing streams to muddy waterholes. Inhabits slow-flowing creeks. Juveniles common in estuaries (Ref. 44894). Most common at low altitude close to the coast. Spawns mainly in late summer and autumn at temperature near 21°C. Feeds on insects, crustaceans and fishes. The newly hatched larvae are apparently swept downstream, as juveniles are commonly found in estuaries (Ref. 44894). |
