Family:  Bathygadidae (Rattails)
Max. size:  30 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 630 - 2165 m
Distribution:  Atlantic Ocean: Eastern Atlantic: Gulf of Guinea, off Mauritania, Canary Islands, off Portugal, Morocco, and Azores. Western Atlantic: off the east coast of Florida, Straits of Florida, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea. Reported off the Guianas (Ref. 13608).
Diagnosis:  Brownish in color. Mouth and gill chamber dark brown to black. Dark median stripe on the gill lamellae (Ref. 37108).
Biology:  Feeds on small crustaceans (Ref. 6187).
