Family:  Chiasmodontidae (Snaketooth fishes)
Max. size:  22.65 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range - 1500 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Atlantic, Indian and Pacific: in tropical and subtropical waters. Known from relatively few, widely scattered localities from South Atlantic of off Baja California, Mexico. Eastern Atlantic: 15°45'S, 06°06'W.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 10-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 24-26; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 24-27
Biology:  Oceanic. Apparently all adults have been taken in hauls to depths exceeding 1,500 m (Ref. 6944)
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 14 July 2014 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
