Family:  Acropomatidae (Lanternbellies, temperate ocean-basses)
Max. size:  40 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 100 - 600 m
Distribution:  Eastern Indian Ocean to Western Pacific: NW Japan to NW Australia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 9-9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 6-8. Body red above, ventrally white. Scales large, deciduous. Inside of mouth cavity black.
Biology:  Feed on large crustaceans and mollusks. Utilized for human consumption (Ref. 637).
