Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Diaphinae
Max. size:  6 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 40 - 750 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Atlantic, Indian and Pacific: in tropical waters with extensions into higher latitudes in western boundary currents. Known from about 20°N to about 11°S in the eastern Atlantic. South China Sea (Ref.74511).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 15-17; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 14-16
Biology:  Oceanic species (Ref. 4066). Found between 375-750 m during the day and between 40-325 m at night (Ref. 4479).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 27 February 2015 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
