Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Cyprininae
Max. size:  28 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; brackish
Distribution:  Asia: Laos, Viet Nam and China (Ref. 43281). Amur to Red River drainages (Ref. 57778).
Diagnosis:  Body silvery with red pelvic, anal and lower caudal lobe (Xiangkhouang stock) or grey (Louang Phabang stock, Laos). Last simple anal ray bony and serrated posteriorly; with 4 barbels; branched dorsal rays 18-22.5 (Ref. 43281).
Biology:  Found in freshwater, but tolerant to slightly brackish water (Ref. 82587).
