Max. size:  4.6 cm SL (male/unsexed); 5.8 cm SL (female)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 0 - 4938 m
Distribution:  Atlantic, Indian and Pacific: in deep water of tropical to temperate zones. Southern Ocean: between the Antarctic Polar Front and the Antarctic continental shelf of the Indian Ocean sector, near the Balleny Islands, and the Scotia Sea. Eastern Pacific: California Current region (Ref. 35800). South China Sea (Ref.74511).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-15; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 17-21; Vertebrae: 29-34. Light to dark brown in color (Ref. 3991). Branchiostegal rays: 14.
Biology:  Meso- to bathypelagic (Ref. 58302). Oceanic, precise depth range dependent upon developmental stage, latitude, season (Ref. 4769). No apparent vertical migration observed (Ref. 4463). Lipid content is 4.3 % in fresh body weight and wax ester is 53.5 % in total lipids (Ref. 9193). Oviparous, with planktonic eggs and larvae (Ref. 35800). Minimum depth from Ref. 58018.
