Diagnosis: |
Description: moderately slender-bodied; frontal prolile straight to slightly concave; snout pointed (Ref. 52307).
Coloration: both sexes occasionally with 2 dark longitudinal stripes (Ref. 52307). Males: pale olive on dorsum, silvery-blue to grayish-blue on flanks; throat and breast black, as is anterior edge of pelvic fins; blackish spots present in anterior portion of yellow-edged dorsal fin; some pale bluish dots on a reddish background present in posterior part of dorsal fin and in caudal fin; anal fin yellowish, with some yellow and blue ocellated egg spots (Ref. 52307). Females: brownish to silvery, lacking any special pigmentation (Ref. 52307). |

Mainly feeds on algae and diatoms; ovophilic, maternal mouthbrooder (Ref. 52307). |
