Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: Lower Iguazú River basin above the Iguazú Falls in Argentina. Distributional range extends upstream of the Misiones Province, Argentina into the neighboring state of Paraná, Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 20-20; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-12; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 8-9
Biology:  All specimens, except two, were collected in the main channel of the Iguazú River, where they occurred as single individuals among the rocks from the walkways over the river ramming their heads and thick lips against the rock surfaces (Ref. 104794).
