Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: upper Rio ParanĂ¡ basin in Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Vertebrae: 27-28. Distinguished from its congeners by possessing a more depressed head profile, a more developed and conspicuous tuft of enlarged odontodes on the tip of the supraoccipital and a partially enclosed arrector fossae. Description: dorsal-fin branched rays 7; anal-fin branched rays 5; pectoral-fin branched rays 6; pelvic-fin branched rays 5 (Ref. 57842).
Biology:  Found in deforested areas in moderate to fast current streams and in association with aquatic macrophytes or in the submerged portion of marginal vegetation. Feeds on filamentous blue-green algae, chlorophytes, diatoms and periderm (Ref. 57842).
