Family:  Congridae (Conger and garden eels), subfamily: Congrinae
Max. size:  100 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 3 - 55 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: Florida, USA and Bermuda to the Antilles and western Caribbean; also from Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Anal spines: 0-0. Gray in color, fins with distinctly black margins (Ref. 13442). Upper lip has along upper edge (Ref. 26938).
Biology:  Occurs mainly around islands. Benthic (Ref. 26340) on hard, rocky or coral bottoms (Ref. 5217).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 15 August 2011 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
