Max. size:  20 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 10 - 40 m
Distribution:  Indian Ocean: widespread, ranging east to Sumatra, Indonesia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 21-23; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 18-20. Description: Body yellow bright, middle dorsal spot black tear-shaped, eye bar black. Snout length 2.5-3.3 in HL. Body depth 1.4-1.6 in SL (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Habitat ranges from coral reef flats to deep slopes (Ref. 48636). Adults usually in pairs, sometimes forming small groups (Ref. 48636). Oviparous (Ref. 205). Form pairs during breeding (Ref. 205).
