Max. size:  11 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 170 - 594 m
Distribution:  North Atlantic: west from off Key West, Florida to Georgia; in the east from Portugal, Meteor Bank, Josephine Bank, Madeira and off Casablanca, Morocco.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 1-3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 2-14; Anal soft rays: 13-13. Eyes in head, 1.9-2.2. Two simple strong spines on preoperculum and suboperculum (Ref. 232).
Biology:  Found in deep water, 150-600 m, on muddy bottoms. Feeds on benthic invertebrates, mainly worms and crustaceans (Ref. 53643).
