Previously confused with Bodianus vulpinus, a West Australian endemic, Bodianus oxycephalus from Japan, and other similar species at Easter Island and Hawaii. |

Adults are found offshore, on deep reefs or islands (Ref. 9002). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). |
