Family:  Soleidae (Soles)
Max. size:  21 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 200 - 1350 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: southern Ireland to Angola; penetrated the Strait of Gibraltar without establishing widespread or abundant populations in the Mediterranean Sea. Reported from the Canary Islands (Ref. 5304), Sicily and Corsica (Ref. 4710).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 76-90; Anal soft rays: 62-74; Vertebrae: 43-46
Biology:  Occurs on muddy bottoms of the continental slope (Ref. 2683). Feeds mainly on polychaetes and some amphipods (Ref. 4710).

Threat to humans:  harmless
