Barbatula quignardi (Băcescu-Meşter, 1967)

Max. size:  7 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  Europe: France from Lez to Tech drainages (Mediterranean basin) and Adour and Garonne dranages (Atlantic basin); Spain in Ebro drainage and between Bidasao and Nervión drainages on eastern Cantabric slope (introduced in Douro drainage).
Diagnosis:  Can be diagnosed from its congeners in Europe by the following combination of characters: caudal fin slightly emarginate; dorsal fin origin above or slightly in front of pelvic fin origin; caudal peduncle depth 1.1-1.6 (usually 1.3-1.4) times in its length, 1.2-1.5 times in body depth; back between nape and dorsal usually with 2-4 irregular dark blotches (Ref. 59043).
Biology:  Inhabits streams with gravel to stone bottom (Ref. 59043).
