Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Pseudocrenilabrinae
Max. size:  15 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: restricted to the coastal river systems of Tanzania; although this species is also reported from other localities in Kenya, Uganda, the upper Niger River and probably also the Nile River, these populations are considered as not conspecific (Ref. 13338). Reports from Lake Chad basin (Ref. 53405) refer to Astatotilapia tchadensis (Ref. 112399). IUCN listed Haplochromis aff. bloyeti as data deficient (DD).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found in rivers, streams and small freshwater lakes (Ref. 4967). Ovophilic, agamous maternal mouthbrooder (Ref. 52307).
