Family:  Cottidae (Sculpins)
Max. size:  10 cm TL (male/unsexed); 7.8 cm TL (female)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 13 - 598 m
Distribution:  Northwest Atlantic: Labrador in Canada south to Cape Cod in Massachusetts, USA; around Greenland. Also Arctic Alaska westward to Point Barrow. Northeast Atlantic: Greenland.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-13; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 10-12. Caudal fin rounded. Light with dark, pale brown or reddish mottling; dorsal fin with small, roundish white blotches on a dark background, especially distinct in males; anal and pectoral fins with dark cross-bars; caudal fin with blotch on base (Ref. 4698).
Biology:  Found on sand, mud or hard bottoms (Ref. 4698). Benthic; feeds on invertebrates (Ref. 58426).
