Diagnosed from its congeners by the possession of the following characters: lateral line usually with 30-38 + 2-3 scales; 3-4 (usually 3) scale rows between lateral line and pelvic fin origin; 11-12 circumpeduncular scale rows; eye diameter smaller than snout length; snout rounded, obtuse; and ventral profile of head with a marked angle at articulation of lower jaw (Ref. 59043). |
Occur in coastal rivers and terminal segments of main rivers. Adults are found commonly in lower reaches of rivers (Ref. 59043). Threatened due to pollution and habitat destruction (Ref. 26100). |
