Associations

Ref.
Associations shoaling;
Associated with Usually found near small anemones on the seafloor (Ref. 86779).
Association remarks Low respiration rate reflects its sedentary, benthic nature; having no mechanism for wide dispersal with small numbers of benthic, precocial offspring (Ref. 54088). Seasonal spawners (June-September). Evidence that they are more abundant in the deeper parts of the Gulf of Maine than was previously suggested; most abundant fish observed from submersible videos of seafloor off Cape Hatteras, N.C. and southern New England; individuals usually small (<15 cm), in a sinusoidal position, usually near small anemones (Ref. 86779).
