Ecology of Harriotta raleighana

Main Ref. Last, P.R. and J.D. Stevens, 1994
Remarks Dwells in soft or silty bottoms on continental slopes or abyssal areas. Associated with cold waters (2.5 to 10.9°C) and high salinities (34.1-35.6 psu). Adults and juveniles likely occupy different habitats. Preys on infauna in soft sediments while the presence of nektonic remains in some stomachs suggest active predation on epipelagic or pelagic organisms. It is an epibenthic predator and a scavenger in deep-water habitats. Oviparous (Ref. 117245). Found on the continental slope and ocean floor. Benthopelagic, occurs 600-2150 m depth (Refs. 58744, 117245). Appears to feed mainly on shellfish and crustaceans.
