Remarks | Ref. 4397 reports a maximum altitude of 500 m and minimum temperature of 14°C. It is mainly benthic but migrates throughout the water column to feed. Seasonal reproductive migration towards coastal zones (0.5-1.0 m depth) and flood plains of rivers in the monsoon season (August-September). Long intestines (10-18 times body length) proof of biological adaptation for the more efficient absorption of low nutritive quality food. Maximum feeding during reproduction between October-December. Feeds on detritus, plants and zooplankton (Ref. 2939). |
