Remarks 'espada', i.e., sword, borrowed from Spanish; 'black', from Old English 'blæc', of obscure origins but probably related to Latin 'flagrare' and Greek 'phlégein', i.e., burn, from Indo-European 'phleg-, bhleg-' (p. 65 in Ref. 11979).
