Remarks Danish for "Atlantic salmon". 'Laks' from same source as produced Old English 'laex', German 'lachs', Swedish 'lax', Yiddish 'laks', English 'lox' and Russian 'losos' (i.e., smoked salmon) borrowed from Anglo-Norman 'saumoun' from Latin 'salmo, -onis' linked to 'salire', i.e., to jump and hence, the leaping fish (p. 454 in Ref. 11979). Confirmed by Ref. 51471.
