Formerly placed in the synonymy of Leiognathus splendens, but now Leiognathus jonesi is recognized as a valid species. This species have a more pale dark blotch on the spinous dorsal fin and narrower second spines of dorsal and anal fins than L. splendens; additionally, it has a small semicircular naked area on nape that is not present in L. splendens (Ref. 75583). |
