Locality Unnamed cenote 12 km N of Leona Vicario, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
Distribution Endemic to cenotes and small inland lakes in northern Quintana Roo, eastern Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico.
Quote Diagnosis of genue: This genus is distinguished by the following characters: 3 strict synapomorphies, where main gill rakers on first arch with a mediad projection at base, posterior edge of mesethmoid with an indentation and a posteriad spine, and posterior edge of supraoccipital crest undulated and has a deep concavity. Homoplastic synapomorphies includes first dorsal fin ray not divided; ascending premaxillary process to anterior orbit rim (similar in Amatitlania); usually bicuspidate lower symphysial teeth (also present in Cryptoheros); narrowest point of dentigerous arm of premaxilla at caudal tip; scale rows between lateral line and base of first dorsal fin ray modally 3.5 or more (same in Archocentrus spinosissimus); first bar on side of body Y-shaped but diffuse (the same in some species of Archocentrus, Cryptoheros, and Tomocichla); longitudinal stripe runs from orbit to lateral blotch (similar with Archocentrus spinosissimus and Parachromis loisellei) (Ref. 74403).
