Locality
Distribution Widespread Indo-West Pacific: east coast of Africa, including the Red Sea and oceanic islands of RĂ©union and Comoros, the coasts of India and the Indo-Malayan Archipelago to as far east as Samoa; north to Ryukyu Is.; south to southern Queensland; 1-70 m.
Quote coastal inshore waters over muddy bottoms to depths of 70 m; juveniles around mangrove areas at depths of 1 to 10 m; enters estuaries. Feeds chiefly on polychaetes, small crustaceans, and small fishes. Schooling.
