in part?, Bauchot (1965) determined that 1 of the 2 syntypes of @A. tumifrons@ collected by Peron on Baudin's expedition is @S. fuscescens@ (MNHN 2949), the other syntype is @S. spinus@. Since it is difficult to believe that Valenciennes could combine @spinus@ and @fuscescens@ as 1 species, a curating error may have occurred. Valenciennes (ibid.) also referred to a fish drawing by Dr. Finlayson to be the same as @tumifrons@, but was not seen by Woodland. |
