Etymology: Fundulopanchax: Latin, fundus = bottom; a peculiar name for a topminnow, coined for a bottom species of Atlantic coast being "the abode of the fundulus mudfish" + Greek, soma = body.

Occurs in temporary pools, raphia swamps and swampy parts of slow flowing brooks in the swampy rainforest (Ref. 3788). Bottom spawner, X months incubation. Very difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139).
